Stairs Refinishing
Stairs Refinishing in Toronto
Stairs take the most daily wear in any home. Over time, treads get scratched, dull, and noisy — but in most cases, you don’t need a full replacement. With professional stairs refinishing, we restore the natural beauty of your wood, improve traction, and bring back a clean, like-new finish.
Complete Stairs Refinishing
Our process includes sanding, stain matching, and a durable protective finish designed for high-traffic areas. If you’re also planning updates to nearby flooring, we can coordinate the look with hardwood floor refinishing or a new hardwood floor installation for a seamless result.
Stain Matching & Color Options
Choosing the right stain makes a huge difference. We help you match your existing floors or pick a new look that fits your interior. Explore popular styles like herringbone wood flooring or chevron flooring if you’re considering a full upgrade.

Preparation
Before we refinish your stairs, we protect your home and set everything up for a clean, controlled process. We cover nearby surfaces, isolate the work area, and remove anything that could be affected by dust. This helps keep your space tidy and ensures the best final result.
Remove trim and base moulding (if needed)
If there are trims or mouldings around the staircase, we carefully remove them when necessary so sanding and finishing is clean and even right up to the edges. Everything is kept intact and can be reinstalled neatly after the work is done.
Rough-sand the stairs
We start with a deeper sanding step to remove the old finish, scratches, and worn areas. This creates a smooth, level surface and reveals the natural wood underneath, preparing it for stain and protection.

Detail Sanding & Finishing
Stairs have many tight corners and edges that need special attention. We use the right tools to reach every detail so the finish looks consistent across the entire staircase, not just on the flat surfaces.
Sand edges and corners
Corners, nosings, and side details are sanded carefully for a uniform look. This step makes a huge difference in the final appearance because stairs show imperfections more than regular flooring.
Buff and clean
After sanding, we buff the surface to remove minor marks and create an ultra-smooth base. Then we vacuum and clean thoroughly so no dust gets trapped under the finish.
Apply stain and protective finish
Finally, we apply stain (if desired) and a durable protective finish designed for high-traffic stairs. The result is a refreshed, rich look with long-lasting protection.
