If you’re shopping for laminate or luxury vinyl plank flooring in Toronto, Triforest is a brand worth knowing. It’s carried by flooring distributors across the GTA, offers a wide range of collections for different budgets and room types, and has been part of the Canadian market for over a decade.
This guide covers what the Triforest lineup includes, which collections suit which spaces, and what to know before you buy.
Who Is Triforest?
Triforest Inc. is an established flooring brand with Canadian distribution offices in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, and Edmonton. Their product line covers two main categories:
Both lines are certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards, and carry CARB2 compliance for low formaldehyde emissions — an important consideration for families with children or anyone sensitive to indoor air quality.
Triforest laminate is built on a high-density HDF core with an abrasion-resistant wear layer. Collections range from entry-level options to more refined finishes suited to main living areas.

AC3/AC4 rated options available for higher-traffic areas
What to Keep in Mind
Standard laminate is not waterproof — not suitable for Toronto basements or bathrooms
Moisture barrier underlayment is essential when installing over concrete
Wide plank collections require a flatter subfloor — older Toronto homes often need prep work
Gloss finishes show scratches and footprints more readily than matte options

The Toucan line uses SPC core construction — a rigid, fully waterproof composite that outperforms standard LVP in terms of dimensional stability. This makes it one of the more practical choices for Toronto’s climate conditions.

What Works Well
100% waterproof — handles Toronto basement moisture and concrete subfloor conditions

Select collections include pre-attached underlayment — useful for condo IIC requirements
Most 7mm+ collections are compatible with radiant heated floors
No acclimatisation required unlike hardwood or laminate
What to Keep in Mind
Thinner collections (4–5mm) feel less substantial underfoot
Not refinishable — worn planks need replacing rather than sanding
Stock availability on some colours varies by season

Subfloor preparation matters. Both laminate and SPC require a flat subfloor — maximum 3/16″ variation over 10 feet. Pre-1960s homes in Etobicoke, Scarborough, and East York often need levelling work before installation.
Moisture barrier is essential for laminate. Installing laminate over concrete without a proper vapour barrier risks swelling over time — even in areas that appear dry.
Plank width and room size. Wide plank options look best in larger, open-concept spaces. Bring your room dimensions to our showroom and we’ll help you choose the right width.
Indoor humidity. Toronto winters regularly drop indoor humidity below comfortable levels without a humidifier. For laminate especially, maintaining 30–60% relative humidity year-round prevents gapping at joints.

Photos don’t capture flooring accurately — finish, sheen, and how a floor reads under real lighting all affect the final result. We carry Triforest laminate and Toucan SPC vinyl samples at our North York showroom.
Bring a photo of your space and any furniture you’re working around — our team will pull the relevant samples and provide a free, no-obligation quote. You can also browse our recent installation projects for inspiration.
Is Triforest a good flooring brand? Triforest is a solid mid-range option for residential use. The HDF core and wear layer perform well for everyday family use, and the collection range covers most common Toronto renovation needs.
Can Triforest laminate be installed in a basement? No. Standard laminate is not recommended for below-grade spaces. Use Triforest SPC vinyl for basements — it’s fully waterproof and handles concrete moisture conditions.
Does Triforest SPC work with underfloor heating? Most SPC collections at 7mm and above are compatible with radiant heated floors. Always verify compatibility on the specific product specification sheet before ordering.
How long does Triforest flooring last? With proper installation and maintenance, both laminate and SPC vinyl perform well over many years in residential settings. Neither product is refinishable — replacement is required when the wear layer is exhausted.
